Programs for Children

Free Newborn Home Visits by a Grand County Public Health Nurse
Every parent of a new baby - no matter how experienced or well informed - benefits from a home visit from a registered nurse. Ideally, every newborn should have an evaluation 48-72 hours after discharge from the hospital to include weight, formal breastfeeding / feeding evaluation, oxygenation check at our altitude, and much more.

A home visit during the postpartum period will serve to decrease other possible complications for example: newborn jaundice, infections, postpartum depression, inadequate weight gain, failure to thrive, and developmental concerns.

A newborn home visit also connects parents to community resources.
