The Grand County Division of Natural Resources is dedicated to dealing with forest health issues; including open burning management, mountain pine beetle, FireWise property management and noxious weed management.

Fraser Valley Smoke

An illegal slash burn occurred in the Fraser Valley on the morning of November 17, 2009.  Approximately 20 large slash piles were ignited with no permit or permission by the Grand County Division of Natural Resources.  The private party has been cited by the County and may also face air quality fines from the State of Colorado.  The East Grand Fire Protection District is monitoring the burns and advising the landowner on mitigation.  Unfortunately, Grand County Natural Resources cannot extinguish the piles as they are too large and inaccessible for water trucks.  All those with respiratory problems should stay indoors or leave the area until the smoke clears, hopefully this weekend.
