Information Sheet on Sales and Use Tax in Grand County


Determine Tax

Use the link below to determine if a physical address is located in one of the Grand County towns or in unincorporated Grand County.  The result will tell you the name of the town for the physical address or will show as "GRAND_CO" if it is in unincorporated Grand County.

Note:  When entering addresses in the app, you must use the abbreviations "COUNTY RD" for a county road, AVE for Avenue, BLVD for Boulevard, CIR for Circle, CT for Court, DR for Drive, LN for Lane, RD for Road, ST for Street, TRL for Trail, WAY for Way.

State Sales Tax

When a vehicle is purchased in Colorado, state sales must be collected.  All buyers must pay 2.9% of the purchase price for state sales tax.  If the vehicle is purchased from a dealer in Colorado, the dealer will collect the state sales tax and remit it to the state.  A receipt for the state sales tax paid will be included with the vehicle title work.

If the vehicle is purchased from a dealer outside Colorado, the dealer may or may not collect the state sales tax for the state where the vehicle was purchased.  If it is,
Colorado will give the buyer credit for state sales tax paid up to 2.9% of the purchase price.  


County Sales Tax

When a vehicle is purchased in Grand County or from someone who has registered the vehicle in Grand County, a county sales tax of 1.3% must be collected prior to titling.
 

City Sales Tax

Kremmling, Hot Sulphur Springs, and Winter Park have city sales taxes.  

  • If both the buyer and the seller live within the town limits of Kremmling or Hot Sulphur Springs, a city sales tax of 4% is collected prior to titling.  
  • If both the buyer (or lessee) and the seller live within the town limits of Winter Park, a 7% city tax is collected prior to titling.

City Use Tax

Granby, Grand Lake and Fraser have city use taxes.  

  • If the buyer lives within the town of Granby, a 4% use tax is collected prior to titling.
  • If the buyer lives within the town limits of Grand Lake, a 5% use tax is collected prior to titling.
  • If the buyer lives within the town limits of Fraser but the seller does not, a 4% use tax is collected prior to titling.
  • If the buyer and seller both live within the town limits of Fraser, a 5% use tax is collected prior to titling.
