VIN Inspections

VIN inspections can be performed by any Colorado law enforcement officer, the Sheriff's Office, or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). All vehicles coming in from another state must have a VIN inspection performed prior to being titled and registered in Colorado.

The Sheriff's Office performs VIN inspections at the Sheriff's Office in Hot Sulphur Springs Monday through Thursday only from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Please bring the vehicle and your current title or other ownership document showing the VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number).

The DMV is located at the Grand County Administration Building. VIN inspections are performed when time and staff schedules permit (availability may vary, please call ahead or ask at the DMV window). Please park in the VIN inspection parking spot behind the Administration Building.  Please provide your current title registration or other document listing the VIN (vehicle identification number). The DMV can be contacted at 970-725-3063 if you have any questions regarding what is needed.

If the vehicle cannot be brought to the DMV or the Sheriff's Office and you live within the town limits of Granby, Fraser or Kremmling, you may contact your local police department to do the VIN Inspection.  If you live in unincorporated Grand County, you may contact the Sheriff's Office at 970-725-3343 to do the VIN inspection at the vehicle's location. A call will be placed to Dispatch to arrange a time for a Deputy to meet you at the vehicle for the inspection.  After normal business hours, please call 970-725-3311 and speak with Dispatch to make arrangements.
