VIN Inspections

VIN inspections can be performed by any Colorado Law Enforcement Officer or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Due to recent changes in law, only certified Law Enforcement Officers or the DMV can complete these, which is why the Sheriff's Office can no longer provide this service at the front office counter.

All vehicles coming in from another state must have a VIN inspection performed prior to being titled and registered in Colorado.

The DMV is located at the Grand County Administration Building. VIN inspections are performed when time and staff schedules permit (availability may vary, please call ahead or ask at the DMV window). Please park in the VIN inspection parking spot behind the Administration Building.  Please provide your current title registration or other document listing the VIN (vehicle identification number). The DMV can be contacted at 970-725-3063 if you have any questions regarding what is needed.

If the vehicle cannot be brought to the DMV and you live within the town limits of Granby, Fraser, Winter Park, or Kremmling, you may contact your local police department to do the VIN Inspection.  If you live in unincorporated Grand County, you may contact the Sheriff's Office at 970-725-3311 to do the VIN inspection at the vehicle's location.

Sheriff's Office Inspection Hours

2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

VIN inspections will be completed by Patrol Deputies as their schedule allows which is dependent on emergency calls for service.
