SNOWMOBILER DIES IN AVALANCHE
GRAND COUNTY, CO – On February 14, 2021, at approximately 1:40 p.m. the Grand County Sheriff’s Office along with Grand County EMS, Grand County Search and Rescue, members of the Mountain Medical Response Team (MMRT), East Grand Fire Department and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) responded to a report of an avalanche in the Corona Pass area, near Pumphouse Lake, near the Town of Winter Park. The caller reported his father was buried by the avalanche and was unconscious.
Upon arriving on scene, responders found a snowmobile which had been carried by the slide onto the frozen lake. Responders located the snowmobile rider in the snow from the avalanche. Lifesaving measures performed by rescuers were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
The snowmobiler’s next of kin has been notified and an investigation into the cause and manner of death is being conducted by the Grand County Coroner’s Office.
